Efficiently uses internal and external resources to ensure appropriate staffing of unit based on accepted standards of care. In outpatient settings, develops and coordinates clinical program schedule and goals and may provide direct patient care. 2. Manages unit personnel by hiring quality staff to meet the needs of patients and their families, provides ongoing supervision and direction to the staff, and evaluates staff performance including recommendations for personnel actions. 3. Participates in the development of and holds staff accountable for hospital, nursing and unit policies, procedures, objectives, competencies, performance improvement initiatives as well as safety, environmental and infection control standards. 4. Administer anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in collaboration and consultation with surgeons and other medical professionals for patient care services including but not limited to surgery, perinatal services, and emergency response. Participates in pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation. Anesthesia equipment and supplies are prepared appropriately for procedures. Evaluates the patient pre-operatively by interviewing and examining the patient; assesses data and selects appropriate anesthetic. Procedural consent is verified prior to each procedure. Patient specific anesthesia plan of care is formulated from the pre-surgical assessment Implements, monitors and adjusts patient’s physiologic condition as appropriate for type of anesthesia and specific patient’s needs. Transfers the responsibility for care of the patient to other qualified providers post-operatively to assure continuity of care and patient safety. Report and completed documentation is provided upon transfer of the patient from intra-operative to post-operative care provider. Acute and chronic post-operative pain management modalities are implemented. Medications, fluids and ventilator support are selected and ordered to facilitate recovery from anesthesia. The patient is discharged from the post-anesthesia care unit and provided with post-anesthesia follow-up, evaluation and care. Must discuss and review anesthesia plan with CRNAs and remain physically present on the premises during delivery of anesthesia services. Coverage of 1-3 weekend calls per month. Friday call is 14 hours, Saturday and Sunday 24 hours. General Job Requirements Basic education of M.D., D.O. or equivalent medical degree Holds current unrestricted physician and surgeon license in the State of Illinois. Holds current DEA license and Controlled Substance in the State of Illinois. Successfully completed a residency program Anesthesiology approved by ACGME or its equivalent. The applicant must be able to demonstrate that he or she has performed at least 50 anesthetic procedures during the past 24 months.
