Job Description

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is seeking a member physician to provide strategic guidance and executive management of AAP educational initiatives, including E-Learning, graduate medical education (GME), and continuing medical education (CME). Reporting to the CEO, this executive-level role is responsible for:
• Overseeing the development and administration of a broad-based educational plan for the AAP
• Directing the strategic growth of CME priorities to focus on continuing professional development and
   lifelong learning, including quality improvement in health care.
• Overseeing live AAP CME courses, including those at the AAP National Conference & Exhibition, and work across departments to ensure fulfillment of CME strategic direction.
• Ensuring accreditation of CME activities and compliance with ACCME.
• Overseeing all GME-related activities, as well as E-Learning initiatives including online courses, sites, and self-assessments.
• Implementing and assisting in the development and dissemination of Board of Directors policy 
  statements related to medical education.
• Representing the AAP on educational matters to various constituents and liaising with outside 
  stakeholders on educational priorities.
• Collaborating with AAP sections/councils and related medical subspecialty organizations to create
  important educational resources for the overall CME curriculum.
• Developing and managing budgets; overseeing and directing assigned grants/contracts.

Qualified candidates must be a Fellow of the AAP, and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in pediatric practice, teaching, and/or research and management experience demonstrating successful inter-professional collaboration, program development, evaluation, and improvements in the education of pediatric medical health professionals. Extensive knowledge of CME accreditation process and organizations required, as well as experience in educational needs assessment, evaluation and outcomes measurement, and in securing funding to support new and existing programs. Successful experience in the administration and leadership of educational programs, including leading and managing people, strategic planning, and fiscal management. Weekend work and frequent travel required. Relocation to Chicago required.
 
The selected individual must be current with advancements in pediatrics and have demonstrated the following:
• Scholarly contributions in the health professions or continuing education fields, strong knowledge and
  familiarity with the educational application of new technologies.
• Experience leading a group process for program development, and familiarity with AAP CME and GME
  activities and processes.
• Experience as an effective liaison between or among various groups, including the ability to engage in 
  successful negotiation, collaboration, and conflict resolution.
• Ability to achieve QI in education and integrate new and emerging technologies.
• Effective listening, written/oral communication skills, including public speaking and presentations.
• Ability to work as part of a high functioning team and collaborative leadership experiences.
• Positive outlook, high personal standard of excellence, commitment to diversity and passion for the special
   training in medical education and administration.
