Job Description
The Legislative Counsel Judiciary Attorney position in the Office of Legislative Counsel in Montpelier, VT, serves the General Assembly. Attorneys involved in legislative practice (including drafting legislation and providing legal analysis) work on a variety of complex legal issues impacting Vermont, and will conduct in-person work during the legislative session. The role is confidential and focused on research, analysis, and policy development.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or successful completion of a recognized law office study program
  • Licensed to practice law in Vermont and in good standing or currently licensed in another state
  • Strong research, analysis, and writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a willingness to interface with legislators
  • Ability to maintain composure while meeting tight deadlines
  • Ability to analyze and interpret issues in a political environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage politically sensitive work
