Job Description
Perform daily lab tests, patient interviewing and phlebotomy. Responsible for compliance of the entire lab to include QA and COLA requirements and guidelines. Seek compliance with appropriate health and safety regulatory agencies. To procure and process patient specimens for laboratory testing, perform tests accurately in a timely fashion, accurately report test results, detecting and managing basic problems as they occur.

Requirements

  • Two-year diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, biological science or chemistry from a national or international accredited educational institution.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) or an equivalent state or governmental certification
  • Ability to perform manual and automated laboratory testing
  • Collection of specimens, including venipuncture and capillary punctures
  • Evaluation of specimen preparation and handling for test analysis
  • Selection, performance, evaluation, and monitoring of test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques
  • Conducting quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products
  • Recognizing and reacting to indicators of malfunctions, locating and implementing corrections
  • Maintaining instruments, including daily, weekly, and periodic maintenance
  • Identifying causes of common problems and making simple repairs
  • Maintaining proper records for quality control reports
  • Performing correct notification of abnormal results per policy
  • Achieving and maintaining competency for waived, moderate, and potentially selected high complexity testing
  • Working with others in a teamwork approach
  • Informing other personnel of circumstances that may affect the quality of testing
  • Notifying appropriate personnel of critical test results or results that are deemed "alert" values
  • Providing courteous and accurate communication and following LMC confidentiality policies
  • Demonstrating the ability to facilitate learning for coworkers, students, and other members of the health care team and community
  • Maintaining established continuing education requirements for national certification and for MLT LMC level requirements
  • Demonstrating clinical reasoning and informed experiential knowledge and skill
  • Ensuring Hazardous Waste or Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals are discarded, stored, and managed with other compatible waste streams
