PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Under direct supervision, this position assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the animals, spaces and labs. Assists with the general care of the animals housed year-round in the Veterinary Technology program. Assists with some general office duties.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for assisting with the general care of the animals housed in the Veterinary Technology labs, including but not limited to; bathing, providing daily exercise, and maintaining the cleanliness of the animals and the area
Assists with answering phones, making copies, and general cleaning duties
Assists the Licensed Veterinary Technologists with the treatment of animals, maintaining laundry, and with inventory
Provides animal care on weekends and holidays for the animals housed year round
Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed
Must be currently enrolled in veterinary technology courses
Strong attention to detail
Proficiency with common office software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel and Access)
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent customer service skills
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
Ability to multi-task
Ability to maintain confidentiality
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling
Able to lift up to 40 pounds to include animals and supplies/feed/dog food
Ability to restrain and handle small and large animals housed in the veterinary technology areas
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound
Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, concisely, or quickly
Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
Provides animal care on weekends and holidays for the animals housed year round
Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards but does require outdoor conditions to care for large animals housed in the veterinary technology areas
Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment, as well as standard equipment used in the basic care of animals
Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
Includes inventory, cleaning, bathing, care of the animals housed in the veterinary technology areas
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a current student in the Veterinary Technology program
High School diploma or equivalent
