Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The focus of research conducted in Dr. William Grady’s laboratory in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division of Fred Hutch is the study of the molecular and cell biology of gastrointestinal cancer as well as the role of genetic and epigenetic alterations in cancer.
Responsibilities
Mouse husbandry/colony management with transgenic and conditional knock-out mice
Maintain a database used for organizing the current inventory and tracking the location of specific information/specimens
Collect and analyze data
Monitor adherence to study protocol
Inform PI of deviations from study protocol
Attend project meetings
Keep detailed records for experiments
Maintain a high level of accuracy for all work
Perform other duties as assigned
Research Technician II:
All Previous Responsibilites, Plus:
Identify methodological problems in research protocol and implement modifications to optimize experimental results.
Prepare and present written or oral progress reports concerning studies including assembly, organization, and interpretation of data.
Assist in the design of experiments; may be responsible for the performance of individual research projects.
Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research.
Assist in publication of results by proofreading, editing, and contributing ideas.
May perform statistical analyses, write computer programs, or manage research data base.
Research Technician III:
All Previous Responsibilites, Plus:
Collection and processing of human and mouse tissue samples
DNA, RNA extraction from fresh frozen or formalin fixed paraffin-embedded human tissue samples
Proficient with real-time PCR technology
Protein extraction, cell fractionation, western blot, and immunoprecipitation
Responsible for the organization of specimen inventory in short-term and long-term storage
In vitro cell culture experiments
Qualifications
Research Technician II:
Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience
2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework
Research Technician III:
All minimum qualifications of Research Technician II, plus:
5 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework (or equivalent combination of advanced degree and work experience)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study
Demonstrated basic laboratory skills
Highly self-motivated and trustworthy.
Willingness to take up new skills and responsibilities.
Ability to follow instructions.
Capability of working independently in a teamwork environment.
Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Competency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and Adobe Photoshop
Research Technician II: The hourly pay range for this position is from $27.01 to $38.45 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
Research Technician III: The hourly pay range for this position is from $33.42 to $50.12 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
