PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Specialist III, Student Services supports other staff by performing task-oriented duties while providing clerical, analytical, administrative, and/or operational support under general supervision. Primarily performs specialized, specific functions requiring knowledge and experience in a particular field, area, or department function. Typical duties may include information gathering and review, presentation of information in verbal or written form, some interpretation of information. At higher levels, also provides advice in area of expertise of student records.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Communicates with current, new, and potential students, as well as community members, via the student services welcome desk and call center
Processes various registration and records related forms
Performs limited advising tasks related to registration and student records
Responsible for printing schedule and an academic advisement report
Responsible for changing address or biographical information
Responsible for verifying residency
Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Ability to organize and work effectively with a wide variety of students from various socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds
Must be results-oriented and self-motivated
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree or higher
