Job Description

A successful candidate in this position will serve as the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of the Deputy Director, Legacy Management, Public Participation Specialist, responsible for planning and carrying out assignments, resolving most conflicts, coordinating the work with other employees, and interpret laws, regulations, and policies and to collaboratively develop new systems, policies, procedures, etc. Learn more about this agency


As a Public Participation Specialist, you will:Develop and execute activities that promote awareness of the Communication, Education and Outreach Program with internal and external organizations, the general public, and various customers and stakeholders impacted by or that have an interest in the Office of Legacy Management (LM) national mission activities. Assist the Team Leader in recommending strategies, programs and products needed to communicate with the media, constituent groups, other agencies, and elected officials. Participate in the development of pro-active and reactive communication plans to disseminate information about frequently controversial or complicated programs that may be of national significance, correct misperceptions and enhance public understanding of policies and actions to protect human health and the environment. Coordinate site public outreach and participation activities with site and program managers at Headquarters and field offices, as well as with counterparts at other agencies and professional/special interest groups. Develop a variety of community relations documents and other materials, including those intended for oral presentation, in support of the Communication, Education and Outreach Program.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - 5-6 days per month.
