The James J. Peters VA Medical Center, Bronx VAMC affiliated with the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine (NYC), numerous Nursing Academic Affiliations and the Hospital for Special Surgery, is located in the NW Bronx on a self contained campus easily accessible by car (free parking for eligible employees) and public transportation.
We are currently recruiting for 1 Full-time REGISTERED NURSE – NURSING INFORMATICS in the DIRECTOR’S OFFICE. Demonstrates or executes leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. The goal of nursing informatics is to improve the health of populations, communities, families, and individuals by optimizing information management and communication. Incorporates theories, principles, and concepts from appropriate sciences into informatics practice. Examples may include information, systems, and change theories. Principles and concepts may include project management, implementation methods, workflow analysis, process redesign, organizational culture, or database structures. The Informatics Nurse assesses, plans, implements and evaluates hardware and software applications integrated with the electronic health record. Possesses an understanding of clinical treatment modalities, organization and administration of the VA healthcare delivery systems, educational principles, clinical information systems, accreditation and regulatory standards, and program development.
Tour of Duty: 8am-4:30pm (with rotation)
Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE;
Current, unrestricted RN license issued by any U.S. State;
U.S. Citizenship required.
English Language Proficiency
Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and reach with hands and arms. Incumbent must have visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech and manual dexterity.
3-5 years in an academic teaching medical center
Project Management experience
The American Health Information Management Associate (AHiMA) Certifications (any of the below):
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP)
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS):
Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Grade and salary will be determined by the Professional Nursing Standards Board.
