The Executive & Internal Communications Senior Manager partners with executive leadership and key stakeholders to design and implement strategic communication programs that create clarity, confidence and connection to our strategy and build our reputation and brand. This role reports to the Director of Executive & Internal Communications dedicated to our Great Place to Work strategy and will directly support Blue Shield’s Chief Innovation Officer on his internal and external communication platforms. Key Responsibilities Partner with Chief Innovation Officer to provide ongoing strategic counsel and coaching to clearly communicate, connect with and inspire 7,000 employees as well as external partners and stakeholders. Based on business objectives, develop and execute the comprehensive communication and employee engagement strategy that promotes the innovation platform internally across the enterprise. Identify strategic external executive communications opportunities for Chief Innovation Officer to build our reputation and brand. Act as internal reporter to identify, understand and connect the dots across strategic innovation activities throughout the enterprise to build content and messaging. Build relationships and collaborate with top leaders and executives across the business to develop cohesive and comprehensive plans and materials. Leverage key opportunities to source and publicize the latest best practices, trends, processes, tools and learnings that reinforce a culture of innovation throughout the company. Support strategic investment programs and develop and execute communication and change management plans in support of large-scale, complex business transformation. Develop multichannel/multimedia strategy and tools, including creative storytelling, to socialize and cultivate innovation mindset. Use data visualization and conceptual design techniques to represent content dynamically and engage users visually in information. Design and manage editorial calendar for internal and external audiences. Partner with top leaders to promote processes and practices that support innovation discipline, rigor and accountability. Source and develop stories about the member experience that convey enterprise progress and success toward becoming a health plan of the future. Research, interview, write and publish executive blogs, news stories and executive presentations. Drive discussions and develop creative briefs and campaigns to tell our story across a variety of media, including videos, presentations and events. Leverage latest innovations, best practices, technologies and feedback to continuously improve our communications approach. Mentor other team members to learn, grow and contribute to a high-performing team.


The Senior Manager will have an extensive track record of designing, developing and successfully implementing comprehensive employee engagement and executive communication programs using multiple platforms and media. The ideal candidate will have: A minimum of 15 years of corporate, internal and executive communications experience. Executive presence, professionalism and ability to influence and build partnerships at all levels. Outstanding creative writing skills with ability to capture the executive’s voice and elevate their content and presence, including ability to simplify complex content and write in a clear, succinct and engaging format that adapts to audience needs. Outstanding verbal and presentation skills. Seasoned project management skills with ability to develop and execute multiple end-to-end programs concurrently and with little oversight. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills and senior client relationship management experience. Solid experience with multimedia platforms, social media and visual storytelling. Experience with software, tools and methods that bring data and concepts to life in visual, dynamic and interactive ways. Adaptability to needs and strategies of individual business units; high tolerance for ambiguity; ability to take ownership and drive projects in a changing environment. Solid team collaboration skills, initiative and passion for coaching others and growing as a team. Desire to make a difference and do more than is required by the job. This includes a passion and will to know more about what drives our mission, business, people and success. Experience and track record working in a business strategy and innovation capacity, challenging the status quo and taking action to identify and implement improvement opportunities. Experience in the healthcare industry. Consulting mindset and experience in management, public relations and communications, and ability to think strategically and build and implement plans that drive results Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business or related field is required; master’s degree preferred. Experience with human-centered design, ethnographic research and digital technologies a plus. This role will require some travel throughout California (less than 25%). Physical
