Working as a member of the Office of Communications and Marketing, the Graphic Designer II will conceptualize and design visual stories that inform, engage and entertain McDaniel audiences and support the College’s goals, with a particular emphasis on enrollment and fundraising. The Designer will concept and design viewbooks, brochures, postcards, and invitations whose primary goal is to engage prospective students and alumni and donors, while providing design support for the overall visual identity of the college, including business cards, signage, event collateral, digital and print ads and more. There is nothing “typical” about the work to be completed. The Graphic Designer II will be expected to have a truly creative eye and to use original, boundary-pushing design to differentiate the College from our peers. The communications and marketing division is not afraid to take risks or embrace bold concepts. The work of the Graphic Designer II will involve taking projects from initial concept and creation to design and then through to pre-press production. This process will include layout, typesetting, photo editing, photo retouching and enhancement, and preparation for transfer to offset press production by providing print-ready files. In addition, the Graphic Designer II may also design graphics for apparel, banners, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in design or art-related field preferred
  • 2 or more years graphic design experience preferred
  • Superior concept development skills
  • Expert at translating messages into impactful visual solutions
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills
  • Superior print design skills with a deep understanding of layout and typography
  • Knowledgeable in file pre-press and printer specifications
  • Expert-level in Adobe’s Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator required
  • Excellent knowledge of the Mac platform and creative/design software
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to think strategically and recommend communications strategies, tactics, and messaging
