This is a 0.4 FTE position located at H-B Woodlawn Secondary Program.

 

All Teachers/Instructional Staff hired after January 15th are considered term employees. This position is a term position that is effective for FY26 through June 18, 2026 only. You would need to re-apply for a position for FY27.

 

Qualifications 

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure.
  • Hold a current, valid qualified or professional certification by the American Sign Language Teachers Association; or
  • Hold a current, valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening Level III Interpreting Certification or higher issued by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing; or
  • Hold a current, valid Registry of Interpreters for Deaf certification at least one of the following: Certification of Interpretation (CI), Certification of Deaf Interpretation (CDI), Reverse Skills Certification (RSC), or Comprehensive Skills Certification (CSC); or
  • Hold a current, valid National Association for the Deaf Level IV Certification or higher, and
  • Earned a minimum of three semester hours of methods of teaching foreign languages at the elementary and secondary levels from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required.

Experience 

  • Experience teaching high school students.
  • Experience teaching American Sign Language to students.
  • Understanding of methodology of teaching foreign language at the secondary level.
  • Experience developing and implementing ASL curriculum.

Salary 

  • Salary based on the 2025-26 salary schedule.
