Role OverviewThe Abstractor reviews medical records and abstracts data into the Cerner Abstracting system. They ensure accurate Discharge Disposition and Inpatient Admission order, and gather additional information as needed.
What You Will Do
Abstract data from medical records, perform Pre-Abstracting and Post-Abstracting, and work with Coding and Audit/Compliance as needed.
Why It Might Be a Fit
Prior HIM experience and coding skills are required, with a preferred coding course completion. Excellent communication and analytical skills are also necessary.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Prior HIM experience working with Analysis, Coding Support or Document Imaging
- Coding course completion (preferred)
- Visual acuity to read and decipher handwriting and electronic documentation
- Competency with computers and various computer programs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Analytical ability to interpret data and assign codes for accurate reimbursement
- Understanding of ICD-10-PCS and ICD-10-CM classification systems
