Role OverviewThe Action Center Manager will oversee all programs and operations within the Jamaica Neighborhood Health Action Center, aligning with the Bureau's focus to address and reduce health inequities in underserved communities. The role will involve liaising with NYC Health Department administrative teams, developing and leading a Governance Council, implementing strategic initiatives, and fostering relationships with building programs. The Action Center Manager will supervise a team of staff and volunteers, promoting professional growth and achieving operational excellence. The role will primarily work in Jamaica, Queens, but will be initially assigned to Long Island City, Queens at least one day per week while renovations are underway at the Jamaica location.
What You Will Do
The Action Center Manager will oversee all programs and operations within the Jamaica Neighborhood Health Action Center, aligning with the Bureau's focus to address and reduce health inequities in underserved communities. The role will involve liaising with NYC Health Department administrative teams, developing and leading a Governance Council, implementing strategic initiatives, and fostering relationships with building programs.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of community work experience, knowledge of budgeting and procurement processes, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with community groups. The candidate will also be comfortable speaking in public and applying a racial equity lens. Bilingual Spanish, French, Urdu, or other language proficiency is encouraged to apply.
Requirements
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college
- Five years of full-time professional satisfactory experience acquired within the last fifteen years, in a health services setting
- At least 18 months of managerial experience, consisting of managerial experience clearly demonstrating the ability to perform difficult and responsible managerial work
- Excellent organizational skills and highly detail oriented
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with community groups
- Knowledge of Queens local communities and local organization leadership, specifically Jamaica and surrounding areas
- Comfortable speaking in public
- Experience and comfort applying a racial equity lens
