Role Overview

The Group Leader oversees the development and engagement of elementary and/or middle school students in the after-school program. The Group Leader is caring, creative, and passionate about maintaining the safety and well-being of students and ensures that all group interactions support the YWCA NYC’s mission.

What You Will Do

Lead homework help classroom and support students with tutoring using recognized learning standards, run group dynamic games and SEL activities, collaborate in the implementation of STEM activities in the literacy-based arts curricula, and create a positive, engaging learning environment through effective classroom management.

Requirements

  • 2+ years working in after-school programs or other education/youth programs
  • GED, High School Diploma and enrolled in college
  • Effective behavioral management skills
  • Knowledge of anti-racism and gender equity principles and practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills: knowledge of email platforms, SharePoint and Microsoft Office suite products (Outlook, TEAMS, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong in math, reading, and other general academic studies
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a bonus
  • Strong work ethic and professional values
