Role Overview

The Agency Attorney will perform legal work, including researching legal issues, preparing legal opinions, and recommending courses of action on issues impacting the Department. The selected candidate will work directly with the Department's Executive staff on legal matters, represent the Department at meetings, and coordinate responses to Freedom of Information Law requests.

What You Will Do

The Agency Attorney will perform the following tasks: working directly with the Department's Executive staff on legal matters, representing the Department at meetings, coordinating and responding to Freedom of Information Law requests, advising on conflicts of interest matters, and preparing responses to litigation inquiries and information subpoenas.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar
  • Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086)
  • One year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment
  • Two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment
