Operates belt presses and other associated solids handling for City of Bloomington Utilities.

Primary
Operates belt presses, which includes the following: pumping sludge into pits, mixing polymer solution and water with sludge, making appropriate adjustments to ensure proper flow, sludge dewatering, conveyance into dump truck, and delivering dewatered sludge to the sludge impoundment area.
Logs appropriate data including volume of sludge treated, polymer used, process efficiency, and solids hauled away.
Maintains cleanliness of the solids building and facilities.
Operates and maintains heavy equipment such as front-end loader, forklift, skid steer, tractor, snow plow, snow blower, bush hog, lawn mower, weed trimmer, dump truck, trailer, skid steer utility vehicle, and related equipment.
Assists in the maintenance of belt filter presses and related equipment. Operates and tills solids drying beds as needed.
Secondary
Assists Solids Handling Department at other locations as needed. Assists Plant Operations Department as needed.
Maintains indoor and outdoor infrastructure throughout the plant by painting and power washing.
Performs general landscaping including mowing, trimming, and weed control. Removes snow and ice from parking lots and sidewalks.
Performs related duties as assigned.
High school diploma; or combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.
Knowledge of and ability to operate department vehicles and various heavy equipment.
Knowledge of and ability to perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and vehicles.
Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B, preferred.
Ability to obtain a Class B with air brakes CDL within the first six months of employment is required. CBU will pay for the CDL training. Difficulty of Work
Moderate physical effort is exerted by incumbent in the set up and operation of equipment, including bending, stooping, and movement of extremities necessary to handle equipment controls. Moderate physical effort is frequently required for regular intervals of time.
Incumbent performs duties outdoors in varying weather conditions, and is exposed to noise, dirt, dust, and odors originating from sludge. Safety precautions must be used at all times to avoid injury to self and others.
Personal Work Relationships
Works as part of a team composed of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators, maintenance staff, and truck drivers.
