ASL Specialist (Teacher)

The ASL Specialist (Teacher) provides American Sign Language (ASL) assessments and facilitates interventions for students, staff, and professionals. They build and implement programming for online learning opportunities, lead ASL online classes, and develop ASL and Deaf Culture skills. The Specialist maintains knowledge of educational trends and attends professional workshops to stay current.

What You Will Do

The ASL Specialist will evaluate ASL competencies, prepare reports, and develop language recommendations. They will also implement programming for online learning opportunities, lead ASL online classes, and provide leadership/support to the team in creating content and building the online professional learning.

To be a fit for this role, you should have a Superior level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at hire, American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) Qualified or Professional certification, and experience in teaching ASL at the K-12 and/or college level. A B.A – B.S. in ASL Teaching, Deaf Education, or a related field is required, with an M.A. – M.S. preferred.

Requirements

• Valid Ohio teaching licensure for grade level, subject area or special class assignment
• Superior level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at hire
• American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) Qualified or Professional certification
• Experience in teaching ASL at the K-12 and/or college level
• B.A – B.S. in ASL Teaching, Deaf Education, or a related field
• M.A. – M.S. preferred
