The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking two dedicated and experienced individuals for the position of Assistant Cook to join our team. The role involves performing a full range of basic tasks in the preparation and cooking of food, including preparing soups, salads, meats, vegetables, desserts, and beverages. The team works in a collaborative environment, and the role requires a healthy work/life balance.

Job duties include contributing to the daily functioning of the kitchen team, engaging in basic kitchen tasks, cleaning equipment and dishes, and safely using various tools and machinery required for meal production.

Requirements

  • Any experience and training which would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above
  • Experience on a food tray line meal delivery system
  • Experience with sanitation practices in a food service environment
  • Experience preparing and serving complete meals per day in a food service environment
  • Experience with a variety of appliances in a commercial production kitchen
  • Experience in a hospital setting
  • Possess a Commercial Food Safety Certification, i.e., ServSafe
