Role Overview

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) is seeking an Assistant Superintendent, Alternative Education to provide leadership and support to its alternative education programs. The successful candidate will have experience in special education and administrative leadership, with a focus on serving vulnerable student populations. The OCDE serves 28 school districts and over 475,000 students, providing a range of programs and services to support student success.

What You Will Do

The Assistant Superintendent, Alternative Education will be responsible for providing direct instruction to students, administering programs and services, and facilitating professional development and other initiatives. The role requires experience in executive leadership, with responsibility for multiple programs, sites, administrators, and/or organizational initiatives.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in special education, including 3 years of administrative and supervisory experience
  • Master's degree in Education, including specialized training in educational administration, public administration, or a related field
  • Five (5) or more years of successful experience as a school principal, preferably within alternative education or programs serving diverse and high-need student populations
  • Experience providing district level, county office, or comparable executive leadership with responsibility for multiple programs, sites, administrators, and/or organizational initiatives
