Role Overview

The Associate Provost, Academic and Faculty Excellence provides leadership for academic quality, curriculum, and academic policy. The incumbent also serves as Acting Provost in times of need. Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President, the Associate Provost works in partnership with senior university leaders, deans, department chairs, and the Faculty Senate. The university has campuses in New York City and Long Island, New York; Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Vancouver, British Columbia, as well as programs around the world.

What You Will Do

Serve as a resource to deans and department chairs on the interpretation and application of faculty policy; manage faculty workload policy, course releases, and overload processes; administer faculty awards, recognition programs, and internal grant competitions; chair the General Education and Curriculum Committees of the Academic Senate; and liaise with various university units on matters involving academic concerns.

Requirements

  • Doctorate or terminal degree
  • A record of teaching, scholarship, and service sufficient to warrant appointment, with tenure, at the rank of associate professor or professor at New York Institute of Technology
  • Successful and demonstrated experience with faculty development (e.g., designing and delivering faculty development programming)
  • Knowledge and experience with policy, curriculum, and contracts
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with and earn the trust of both faculty and administrators
  • Working knowledge of faculty personnel processes, including reappointment, promotion, and tenure review
  • Working knowledge of evidence-based pedagogy, inclusive teaching practice, and course design
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write clearly about policy and to facilitate effectively across disciplines
  • Sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters
