Job Description
The Athletic Trainer-Certified provides athletic training services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with the state athletic training practice act. Monitors and provides game/contest coverage for athletes at assigned schools. Designs and implements preventative injury programs; identifies, evaluates and provides immediate care/referral for athletic injuries. Acts as a liaison between family physicians, medical specialists, school representatives, athletes, their parents, coaches and athletic directors.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of athletic training protocols and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span.
  • Knowledge of anatomical structure and function, physiological and biomechanical demands and response to exercise.
  • Knowledge of the nutritional and hydration demands of athletes.
  • Knowledge of athletic event play rules, equipment and safety requirements.
  • Skill in performing prescribed treatments and recommendations by team/program/event physician.
  • Skill in recognizing, evaluating and providing immediate care of athletic injuries.
  • Ability to perform prevention, assessment, treatment (including first aide) and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality relative to sensitive information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use, demonstrate and maintain athletic training equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to perform proper taping, strapping, bracing and fitting of athletic equipment.
