Role Overview

The AVID Instructional Assistant works directly with students and AVID elective teachers to provide instruction-related services. The role involves conducting tutorial sessions, guiding students in the writing process, and reinforcing the idea that learning extends beyond studying.

What You Will Do

The AVID Instructional Assistant will determine the focus of and conduct tutorial sessions, work with students in the writing process, guide students in developing their own active learning, and maintain familiarity with students' textbooks and materials.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The ideal candidate will be able to effectively demonstrate oral and written communication skills, advocacy for students, and responsibility to the AVID coordinator/teacher. They will also have a good command of the English language and basic knowledge of the subject being taught in the program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Enrolled and maintains enrollment at a college or university while employed OR currently has a college or university degree.
  • Effectively demonstrate: oral and written communication skills; advocacy for students; responsibility to AVID coordinator/teacher.
  • Good command of the English language as well as basic knowledge of the subject that is being taught in the program.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff, students, and parents.
  • Experience with computer hardware and software, audio-visual and other instructional equipment.
  • Second language preferred for ELL assignments.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint clearance card within 90 days of employment.
