Job Description


Assist Outreach and Behavior Coordinator and Director with Responsible Pet Ownership Campaign. Intern will assist with creating documents, media materials and distribution.

Essential (primary)

Provide behavior support for at-risk population of dogs in the shelter environment.

Develop behavior and training protocols for individual dogs with the guidance of Behavior Coordinator.

Assist Behavior Coordinator and Animal Care Technicians with playgroup.

Provide adopters with information on continued training.

Goals: reduce stress of animals in care, increase adoptability in animals through training, reduce length of stay for at-risk dogs.High School Degree/GED

At least one year of hands-on experience either through employment or volunteer work in any of the following fields: animal shelter, vet office, grooming or training facilities.

Knowledge and understanding of animal behavior, training and shelter work, preferred
Difficulty of Work

Performs duties both indoors and out of doors in varied weather conditions and is exposed to hazards associated with the handling of frightened, vicious, and/or diseased animals. Incumbent is subject to threat of exposure to rabies, animal feces, and bodily fluids, animal diseases that can be contagious to humans, external and internal parasites, and to toxic substances, such as disinfectants and corrosive cleaners. Incumbent is subject to exposure to animals that may be aggressive or in poor health condition.
