PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Benefits Administrator is responsible for ensuring the proper administration of benefit plans, retirement programs, and leave of absences through auditing, reconciliation, record maintenance, and other reporting functions, ensuring programs are in compliance with government regulations. Provides customer service and outreach to employees on all matters that are benefit related, to include all benefit programs, leave information, and processes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Maintains and audits benefit systems to ensure accuracy of employee enrollment information; Monitors, audits, reconciles, tracks and edits various employee benefit plans; Verifies benefit changes are processed correctly
Processes and monitors leaves of absence, including administration of Military Leave, FMLA, Short-term disability, sick leave pool, Long-term disability, or other leave programs; Reviews, approves, and processes information in LSC's systems and provides documentation in regard to leaves
Prepares, audits, and reconciles reports for internal and external vendors such as TRS, ERS, EAP, optional benefit vendors, and savings plan vendors and makes adjustments as necessary; Communicates any changes made with internal and external customer prior to processing
Reviews and verifies benefits in the HR system appropriately; Updates employee records and make corrections as necessary
Completes retirement paperwork (TRS forms, ERS medical forms) for employees wishing to retire from the College or surrounding Independent School Districts; Conducts retirement assistance meetings, as needed
Drafts adjustments for missed or due medical and dental benefit deductions
Resolves and responds to employee benefit inquiries and issues related to leaves of absence, onboarding, terminations, retirement, benefit adjustments, event changes, etc.
Delivers benefit information to LSC faculty and staff through benefits enrollment meetings, orientations, and trainings relevant to benefits; Assists with the processing of any additions or changes to employee benefits during open enrollment and life event changes; Provides guidance during open lab sessions
Tests bundles for system upgrades and new processes being implemented to ensure the process flow is accurate and all data is processed correctly
Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent customer service skills
Knowledge and demonstrated experience in benefits administration including current knowledge of regulations pertaining to health and welfare programs
Ability to manage multiple and concurrent priorities and prioritize duties
Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, and human resources information systems
Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, judgment, negotiating, influencing, and decision-making skills
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. May involve walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment, as well as a variety of specialized equipment generally associated with machining labs
Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
Work is performed both indoors in a climate-controlled office environment
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working in higher education
Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), or higher
