Role Overview

The Driver operates a box truck to pick up donated items, including small furniture, household goods, clothing, and other miscellaneous items, from donors. This role requires excellent customer service skills to interact professionally with donors, as well as the ability to safely lift and load heavy items onto the vehicle. The Driver plays a key role in the organization's mission by collecting donations that are converted into funds for charitable partners.

What You Will Do

Safely operate a box truck following traffic rules and regulations, and follow designated pickup routes efficiently to maximize donations collected. Load and unload donated items, maintain a clean vehicle, conduct regular inspections, and accurately record donation details including item descriptions and donor information. Provide exceptional customer service, thank donors, and positively represent the organization.

Requirements

  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, climb, and bend for extended periods of time
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery, including box trucks and compactors
  • Visual acuity to read road signs, maps, and operating instructions
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for operating truck controls and handling bags and boxes
  • Strong back and abdominal muscles to maintain proper posture while operating equipment and lifting heavy objects
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to unpleasant odors, hazardous materials, and potentially dangerous situations
  • Good hearing to detect warning signals and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment health screening and motor vehicles record check
  • Fundamental understanding of written and spoken English for comprehending instructions, reading street signs, and communicating verbally and in writing in English
