Role OverviewThe Breastfeeding Peer Counselor provides basic information and education about breastfeeding using their own experiences with breastfeeding and utilizing the WIC program. You will encourage breastfeeding and provide a positive environment for new mothers.
What You Will Do
Serve as clinical expert for lactation and breastfeeding, provide education on common misinformation, and address concerns of expectant mothers. Contact prenatal and breastfeeding participants monthly, provide anticipatory guidance and motivational breastfeeding education materials, and counsel prenatal and breastfeeding participants on a one-to-one basis.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The ideal candidate will have experience as a breastfeeding mom, be a former or current WIC participant, and be willing to obtain Certified Breastfeeding Educator certification.
