Bus Assistant

Assist the bus driver with the movement, management, and care of students while they are being transported to an assigned destination. The role requires a high level of professionalism, diplomacy skills, and attention to detail to ensure the safety and well-being of students. The Bus Assistant will work closely with the bus driver and other team members to provide a positive and safe experience for students.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities include assisting students with entering or exiting the bus, monitoring passengers to ensure safety regulations and student conduct rules are followed, exercising student management through communication and discipline, and physically assisting passengers in evacuation of the vehicle in case of emergency.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age (19 years of age for New York School Bus Assistants)
• Must meet physical and medical requirements
• Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings
• Must have a high degree of attention to detail and considerable dexterity
• Ability to relate to and work well with children
• Ability to maintain effective pupil behavior management
• High level of professionalism and diplomacy skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to lift and assist students when necessary
