Role OverviewThe cardiopulmonary therapist will be responsible for obtaining diagnostic information used to evaluate patients for heart disease by performing various non-invasive cardiac testing.
What You Will Do
The therapist performs and documents functions such as carrying out the physician’s medical orders, providing a safe and therapeutic environment, coordinating, communicating, interpreting, and explaining patient care services to the patient, his/her family and other health professionals.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The therapist participates in the inpatient and outpatient treatment of patients sustaining cardiovascular and/or pulmonary disease with related conditions, and oversees the patient’s exercise program, evaluates their response to exercise and provides patient/family member education.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology/Exercise Science, or physical education
- Current MN licensure (if clinical background is RN, PT, OT)
- BCLS and ACLS certification within 6 months
- Ability to accurately assess heart rate and blood pressures
- Ability to accurately read and interpret ECG rhythms and ischemic changes
- Knowledge of contraindications for stress testing and of exercise progression and prescription for the cardiopulmonary patient
- Ability to educate patients on various health related topics
