Role Overview

Under general supervision and according to established procedures, transports patients, mail, medical records, laboratory specimens, equipment and patient related materials to all areas within Hospital complex. Operates service elevators and maintains transport vehicles according to procedure.

What You Will Do

Transports patients by wheelchair or stretcher to areas within hospital complex as assigned by Dispatcher or according to needs of assigned area. Collects laboratory specimens, medical records, x-rays, lab reports, prescriptions and medications, and distributes them to appropriate areas. Moves equipment on wheels and/or other moderately heavy equipment and materials such as hospital beds, carts, cardiac monitors and supplies. Maintains a written log of all assignments, recording department, items or patients transported and times of initiation and completion.

Why It Might Be a Fit

Requires the level of education normally attained in courses at secondary school levels, with verbal skills to understand English instructions and writing skills to maintain a daily log. Between two and four weeks on the job training is provided. Physical ability to stand and walk almost continuously, and to lift, carry and push patients and moderately heavy materials is needed.
