Role Overview

The UAB PrEP Clinic is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to provide clinical support for a growing HIV prevention and sexual health treatment program. Working under general supervision, the CMA will assist providers with patient care, perform clinical and administrative duties, and help ensure the efficient delivery of comprehensive PrEP, STI, and sexual health services in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

What You Will Do

Provide direct clinical support including rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, medical histories, medication reconciliation, and preparing patients for provider evaluation. Perform clinical procedures including phlebotomy, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, vaccine administration, and medication preparation. Coordinate patient care by scheduling follow-up appointments, facilitating lab orders, communicating test results, and assisting with triage of referrals. Support PrEP and sexual health services by assisting with same-day PrEP visits, STI screening, long-acting injectable PrEP administration, inventory management, and patient education.

The position offers an hourly pay range of $15.00 – $23.55 and requires CPR certification within 30 days of employment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Currently certified as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required
  • If certified by another accrediting agency, AAMA or NHA certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment
