Role Overview

The Certified Peer Support Specialist will provide peer support services to persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse problems. They will utilize their personal recovery experience to instill hope and optimism for persons in recovery. The Specialist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to promote a culture of recovery and empowerment.

What You Will Do

The Peer Support Specialist will engage with community representatives, collect data, and provide feedback on goal attainment. They will also network with mental health, substance abuse, and other supportive service agencies to increase understanding and enrollment in medication-assisted treatment.

Requirements

  • Minimum age requirement of 18
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified as a peer specialist or willing to take an 80 hour course and receive certification
  • Knowledge of support systems and community resources
  • Ability to accurately document information
  • Excellent written and oral communication, documentation and computer skills
  • Satisfactory references from employers and/or professional peers
  • Satisfactory criminal background check
  • Satisfactory drug screen
