Job Description
The Chief Hearing Examiner is a senior leadership position within the Appeals Directorate of the Division of Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) at the Maryland Department of Labor (MDOL). The role oversees the administration of hearings, ensures the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of decisions, and manages a team of Hearing Officers and Clerks.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from an accredited law school
  • 6 years of experience as a hearing examiner in any administrative, criminal, or civil proceedings with 2 years of experience in a supervisory role OR 2 years of legal experience + 4 years as a hearing examiner in paid leave, UI, workers compensation, or any other benefits administration program
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
