Chief of Survey and Mapping-DEP

The Chief of Survey and Mapping-DEP will lead the Division of State Lands, overseeing the management of activities on over 12 million acres of public lands, including lakes, rivers, and islands. The position requires licensure by the State of Florida's Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers. The Chief will communicate with, motivate, train, and evaluate employees, plan and direct work, and have authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees.

What You Will Do

The Chief will administer the overall administration of the Bureau, including budgeting, administrative reporting, and personnel actions. They will lead programs effectively, act as technical staff and advisors to the Director of State Lands, and administer Florida's Coastal Mapping program, Restoration of Corners program, and Land Boundary Information System (LABINS) program.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic management principles and practices, land surveying and mapping terminology, principles, tools, and techniques. They will be able to administer an advisory program, determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments. The Chief will also be able to communicate technical information verbally and in writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and supervise others.

Requirements

• Licensed as a Professional Surveyor and Mapper, as required in Chapter 472, Florida Statutes.
• Background and fingerprint check.
• Vendor Invoice responsibilities, in accordance with Chapter 215.422, Florida Statutes.
• Travel.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
