Job Description
Role Overview

The Chief Probation/Parole Officer supervises Probation/Parole Officers, Judicial Services Coordinators, and clerical staff in the unit. The CPPO coordinates and manages the unit’s workflow to ensure the effective implementation of Community Supervision goals and strategies. The CPPO handles daily operations and makes decisions about offender supervision.

What You Will Do

The CPPO deals with discipline, conflicts, and complaints as needed, oversees team staffing and employee performance. The CPPO also engages in crisis interventions and meets with stakeholders, requiring a flexible schedule that includes regular 8-5 hours and the need to be available 24/7 for emergency calls.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The CPPO must possess the skills necessary to qualify annually with a firearm and unarmed self-defense, complete CPR annually, and be indirectly exposed to O.C. Pepper Spray as part of a training exercise. The CPPO must reside within 30 miles of the county of assignment within 90 days of their start date.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution
  • Four years of experience as a North Carolina Probation/Parole Officer
  • Eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission
