Job Description
The Bureau of Child Care seeks Child Care Inspectors (Public Health Sanitarians) to conduct inspections of child care programs, enforce laws and regulations, and protect the health and safety of children. The Bureau is responsible for ensuring compliance with the New York City Health Code and New York State Social Service regulations. The selected candidates will be expected to travel to Albany, NY for training and elsewhere throughout the State for an annual NYS Regulator's meeting.

Requirements

  • Conduct periodic inspections of childcare programs
  • Prepare reports using a handheld tablet
  • Review findings with and instruct operators on regulatory compliance
  • Issue court summonses and hearing notices
  • Determine site viability related to applications for permits
  • Conduct data collection and reporting activities
  • Attend and testify at administrative hearings
  • Travel throughout New York City
