Role OverviewThe New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City.
What You Will Do
Serve as a team leader and quality control engineer in the Bridge Inspection & Management unit of the Bureau of Maintenance, Inspection, and Operations. Perform in-depth, routine, special, and emergency inspections using a variety of equipment and tools. Prepare bridge condition sketches for thorough documentation and produce bridge inspection reports per the accepted New York State bridge inspection standards.
Why It Might Be a Fit
Preference will be given to those with a strong background in AutoCAD and MS office suite, and a valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License. The position requires an employee to drive an inspection van for fieldwork and may assist the Director of Bridge Inspection in the office with bridge inspection-related work.
Requirements
- Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work
- A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License
- Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer
- A masters degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience
