Role Overview

The Commercial Credit Lead plays a vital role in assessing and managing credit risk for commercial clients at M&T Bank. This individual contributor client-facing position involves analyzing financial statements, structuring credit solutions, negotiating legal documents, and obtaining credit approval while ensuring compliance with credit policies and regulatory requirements.

What You Will Do

Facilitate the credit needs of customers by underwriting new requests and material modifications from deal screen through approval and for the life of the loan. Manage the ongoing credit risk of existing loan portfolios through continuous credit monitoring activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 7 years’ experience in complex credit underwriting, specialty underwriting, or other complex financial analysis role
  • Excellent analytical skills with a high level of proficiency in financial modeling and analysis of credit transactions/structures
  • Ability to calculate and interpret financial ratios, analyze data, and complete trend analysis to understand and minimize credit risks
  • Proficient with legal documentation including experience and skill in negotiating legal documentation and the ability to structure transactions independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Customer focused with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
