Confidential Investigator

The New York City Department of Investigation is seeking an entry-level Investigator to join our Background Investigation Unit. The Investigator will conduct comprehensive, sensitive investigations of individuals under consideration for City appointments to positions of public trust.

What You Will Do

Key responsibilities include conducting investigations, analyzing information, preparing reports, managing a caseload, and applying critical thinking and sound judgment to evaluate information.

Requirements

• Four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent
• Four years of satisfactory full-time experience in investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, inspections, or a major operational area of the agency
• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
• Education and/or experience equivalent to the above
