Job Description
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking a Correction Lieutenant to supervise correction officers and enforce security measures in a correctional environment. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, 2 years of training or experience in security measures, and 6 months of training or experience in supervisory principles.

Requirements

  • Supervises correction officers and Correction Sergeants/Counselors
  • Instructs and evaluates COs
  • Assigns staff to posts
  • Enforces post orders assignments
  • Ensures COs and correction sergeants/counselors are alert, attentive and properly placed at their respective posts
  • Conducts surveillance security of institution and property
  • Prevents escapes, apprehends escapees, and/or prevents incidents which threaten the security and safety of the facility/incarcerated population/staff or general public
  • Monitors and directs custody operations during movement of inmates to meals, infirmary, schools, worksites, and other locations
  • Attends monthly unit meetings and assists the Correction Specialist in supervising Correction Officers in the unit
  • Assists in supervising and/or arranging for the supervision of meaningful activities
  • Ensures the availability and utilization of personnel protective equipment (PPE) for Correction Officers
  • Responds to the needs of incarcerated persons
  • Manages disputes and seeks resolution involving incarcerated population and reports complaints of abuse by employees
  • Participates in team approach to unit planning, operation and problem solving
  • Gathers information and writes reports covering accidents, fires, and employee and inmate’s disciplinary actions
  • Completes employee and incarcerated worker performance evaluations
  • Schedules work assignments, population bed movement, meals, educational and recreational activities
  • Serves on rules infraction board or other committees as required
  • Ensures safety and security of equipment and supplies
