Job Description
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking a Correction Lieutenant to supervise correction officers and enforce security measures in a correctional environment. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, 2 years of training or experience in security measures, and 6 months of training or experience in supervisory principles.
Requirements
Supervises correction officers and Correction Sergeants/Counselors
Instructs and evaluates COs
Assigns staff to posts
Enforces post orders assignments
Ensures COs and correction sergeants/counselors are alert, attentive and properly placed at their respective posts
Conducts surveillance security of institution and property
Prevents escapes, apprehends escapees, and/or prevents incidents which threaten the security and safety of the facility/incarcerated population/staff or general public
Monitors and directs custody operations during movement of inmates to meals, infirmary, schools, worksites, and other locations
Attends monthly unit meetings and assists the Correction Specialist in supervising Correction Officers in the unit
Assists in supervising and/or arranging for the supervision of meaningful activities
Ensures the availability and utilization of personnel protective equipment (PPE) for Correction Officers
Responds to the needs of incarcerated persons
Manages disputes and seeks resolution involving incarcerated population and reports complaints of abuse by employees
Participates in team approach to unit planning, operation and problem solving
Gathers information and writes reports covering accidents, fires, and employee and inmate’s disciplinary actions
Completes employee and incarcerated worker performance evaluations
Schedules work assignments, population bed movement, meals, educational and recreational activities
Serves on rules infraction board or other committees as required
Ensures safety and security of equipment and supplies
