Role Overview

A Dedicated Aide manages a student's behavior and ensures their safety through the implementation of behavior modification systems, school rules, and policies. They accompany the student to all classes and activities to support academic assignments and behavioral goals. Dedicated Aides work under the direction of the classroom teacher to implement lesson plans and IEP goals.

What You Will Do

The main responsibilities of a Dedicated Aide include shadowing the student, monitoring activities, and documenting progress. They help the student decrease and avoid inappropriate behaviors through effective behavior management techniques. Dedicated Aides also assist the student with individual and group classroom assignments, demonstrate basic knowledge of academic subjects, and provide feedback to teachers and team members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
  • Related course work, Associates or Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Six months of formal training or experience in special education, a psychiatric setting, or other similar setting for children and adolescents is preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities are a plus
