Role Overview

As Design Manager for A/E Services, you will manage and coordinate the District's design process for engineering repair and critical repair projects on buildings that students are still using. You will work with architects, consultants, and District staff to get each project finished on schedule. You will run the design review, check that the design meets LAUSD's standards, and review design changes to ensure projects stay on budget.

What You Will Do

Your main day-to-day responsibilities will include managing the design process, choosing the architecture firm best suited to each project, giving clear direction to architects, and reviewing design changes. You will also report on the status of planning and design, with findings and recommendations.

Why It Might Be a Fit

To be successful in this role, you will need 8 years of experience managing facilities design or planning and coordinating capital projects, including overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling. You will also need a bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering, and the judgment to direct several architects and projects at once.

Requirements

  • 8 years of full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design, or planning and coordinating capital projects
  • 4 years of experience in the design, planning, and construction of schools or similar public agencies
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering
  • Current California Certificate of Registration as an Architect, or a Professional Engineer license (preferred)
  • Experience with DSA, the state office that approves public school construction (preferred)
  • Cost estimating and scheduling on the design side (preferred)
