Role OverviewAs a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will teach life skills, lead activities, support behaviors and personal care, and help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build greater independence in a day program setting. The role involves leading cooking, art, music, recreation, and life-skills activities, teaching and reinforcing skills that build greater independence, and providing personal care and behavioral support. The team works closely together to maintain a safe, positive, and consistent environment.
What You Will Do
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include leading cooking, art, music, recreation, and life-skills activities, teaching and reinforcing skills that build greater independence, supporting community outings and volunteer activities, providing personal care, including restroom, hygiene, eating, and mobility support, and providing behavioral support and using trained de-escalation techniques.
Why It Might Be a Fit
A strong DSP stays calm, pays attention, takes initiative, communicates with their team, accepts feedback, and adjusts when something isn't working. They understand that supporting independence means coaching someone through a task instead of automatically doing it for them. If you have experience supporting people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, behavioral needs, personal care needs, or similar support needs, you may be a great fit for this role.
