Director of Communications

The Director of Communications leads the organization's external communications, educational resources, public relations, digital content, editorial, and creative functions. This role develops strategies that improve understanding of the organization's certifications, strengthen stakeholder trust, and support the organization's public-protection mission. The Director serves as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and ensures that organizational communications are accurate, accessible, timely, and consistent.

What You Will Do

Develop and implement the organization's communications and educational strategy, lead communication planning for major initiatives, policy changes, and organizational announcements, oversee the development of high-quality educational resources, direct public relations, reputation management, media relations, and crisis communications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, education, marketing, or a related field.
• Seven or more years of progressively responsible communications experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience managing professional staff and leading cross-functional projects.
• Strong writing, editing, presentation, leadership, and strategic planning skills.
• Experience in nonprofit, certification, accreditation, healthcare, higher education, government, or professional association settings preferred.
• Experience with reputation management, crisis communications, accessibility, and plain-language principles preferred.
