Role Overview

The Director of Finance owns the accounting and financial reporting function for Menlo Inc. and carries responsibility for human resources administration. This is a working leadership role that combines the responsibilities of a Controller with oversight of payroll, benefits, and employment compliance. The position closes the books, produces financial statements, leads budgeting and forecasting, manages cash and working capital, and maintains internal controls.

What You Will Do

Accounting and Financial Reporting: Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and produce accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and supporting schedules, including accruals, prepaids, deferred revenue, fixed assets, and depreciation. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, customer billing, collections, and employee expense reporting.

The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, experience with payroll oversight, benefits and 401(k) administration, and HR compliance. Prior supervisory experience is required, and a CPA, CMA, SHRM-CP, or PHR certification is preferred.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and full-cycle close in a small to mid-sized company.
  • Working knowledge of payroll practice, benefits administration, and federal and state employment law.
  • Proficiency with accounting and payroll/HRIS platforms and advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial results to non-financial audiences.
  • Sound judgment and absolute discretion in handling confidential financial, compensation, and employee information.
  • Highly analytical and detail oriented, with the ability to translate data into business insight.
  • Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, including at least three years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or equivalent role.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • CPA, CMA, SHRM-CP, or PHR certification preferred.
