Job Description
The Distribution Systems Inspector is responsible for supervising the installation of water meters, inspecting work performed by contractors, ensuring the safety of distribution systems, and enforcing City ordinances related to paving cuts, main repairs, meter installations, waterline replacements, and fire hydrant repairs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of water distribution systems, water mains, water valves, fire hydrants, and meter pits.
  • Knowledge of City ordinances related to paving cuts, revocable and boring permits, main repairs, meter installation, and water line replacement and repair.
  • Knowledge of material specifications used in meter installation.
  • Knowledge of construction standards, ordinances, regulations, plans, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate and follow safe working practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and efficient utilization of work-related tools and equipment.
  • Ability to supervise and perform tasks associated with main repair, paving cuts, meter installation, and water line replacement and repair functions.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide verbal instructions to private contractors on installation procedures, for valves, hydrants, and meter installations.
  • Ability to prepare and complete standard forms and work logs.
  • Ability and willingness to supervise the work of a crew.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Ability to perform work under pressure.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to assume responsibility for own work and the work of a crew.
  • Possession of a Class C Distribution and Collection Operator license.
  • Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator or higher).
