Role Overview

The Bureau of Childcare seeks an Early Childhood Education Consultant to monitor and make recommendations to childcare programs throughout New York City to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The consultant will evaluate and assess child care programs, provide consultation and guidance to providers, and serve as a resource person for the Bureau and providers on current trends and research in Early Childhood Education.

What You Will Do

Duties will include evaluating and assessing child care programs, providing consultation and guidance to providers, serving as a resource person for the Bureau and providers, issuing notices of violation, making recommendations for issuance or denial of child care permits or licenses, and examining records and files of child care programs.

The position requires a professional certification in Early Childhood Education and computer skills, including the use of mobile computing devices.

Requirements

  • Professional Certification in Early Childhood Education
  • Masters degree in education from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 12 semester hour graduate credits in early childhood or elementary education
  • Three years of full-time satisfactory experience in one or a combination of the following: (a) as the director or educational director of a licensed school or licensed program, (b) as the teacher director of a licensed school or licensed program, (c) as a consultant in early childhood education who evaluates programs and/or provides expert advice, or (d) as a consultant in early childhood education who evaluates programs and/or provides expert advice in a public agency
