Role OverviewThe City of Birmingham is seeking an Employee Relations Advisor to assist in administering the City's Employee Relations Program. This position provides guidance on organizational Rules and Regulations, advises employees and management on available options for resolving workplace issues, and investigates employee grievances, disciplinary matters, and allegations of misconduct.
What You Will Do
Accepts and investigates grievances, disciplinary appeals, injury with pay appeals, ADA requests, and citizen complaints. Prepares for pre-hearing conferences, manages and coordinates hearings, and prepares the post-hearing process.

Requirements
- Experience interpreting and executing federal, state, and local employment laws, rules, regulations, or guidelines (e.g., FMLA, FLSA, Enabling Act).
- Experience interpreting workplace policies and procedures for employers or employees to ensure their understanding and ensure the employer is applying policies and procedures in a consistent manner.
- Experience facilitating an employee grievance process, disciplinary appeal process, mediation, or other forms of due process systems.
