Role OverviewThe Energy Engineer will support the planning, development, implementation, and verification of energy-efficiency and clean-energy projects at NYC Health Department facilities. The selected candidate will perform engineering analyses, review consultant and contractor submissions, monitor building-system performance, support commissioning and retro-commissioning activities, and collaborate with facilities, operations, capital project, and maintenance teams to improve energy performance and maintain agency buildings in a state of good repair.
What You Will Do
Perform engineering calculations and energy modeling to evaluate proposed energy-conservation measures, review mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and energy-project design documents, support the development and implementation of energy-efficiency, electrification, renewable-energy, building-management-system, HVAC, lighting, domestic-hot-water, and building-envelope projects, and use building management systems, utility data, equipment-monitoring platforms, interval-meter data, and field observations to analyze system performance.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The selected candidate will have at least two years of professional experience in energy management, mechanical or electrical engineering, commissioning, retro-commissioning, building operations, energy auditing, or facilities engineering, and will be able to read, interpret, and evaluate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, architectural, and construction drawings and specifications.
Requirements
- At least two years of professional experience in energy management, mechanical or electrical engineering, commissioning, retro-commissioning, building operations, energy auditing, or facilities engineering
- Ability to read, interpret, and evaluate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, architectural, and construction drawings and specifications
- Experience evaluating HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, air-handling units, pumps, variable-frequency drives, building-management systems, lighting systems, domestic-hot-water equipment, heat pumps, and other building energy systems
- Familiarity with energy modeling, utility-data analysis, interval-meter analysis, building benchmarking, greenhouse-gas calculations, lifecycle cost analysis, and measurement and verification
- Familiarity developing scopes of work, reviewing design and construction documents, managing technical consultants or contractors, and supporting projects through design, construction, commissioning, and closeout
- Familiarity of NYC construction, mechanical, electrical, building, and energy codes, as well as applicable ASHRAE standards and high performance-building guidelines
- Familiarity with building-management systems, automated controls, trend-data analysis, equipment sequences of operation, and building system optimization
- Ability to conduct field inspections and work collaboratively with facility operations, maintenance, construction, engineering, and administrative personnel
- Professional credentials such as Certified Energy Manager, Certified Energy Auditor, Certified Building Commissioning Professional, Certified Measurement and Verification Professional, Building Operator Certification, Project Management Professional, or comparable industry certifications are preferred
- A valid motor vehicle driver license recognized by New York State may be required and must be maintained for the duration of the assignment
