Role OverviewThe Engineer I position is located in the Lumberton Resident Engineer’s Office and serves as an Assistant Resident Engineer. The role requires supervising employees engaged in stakeout and inspection of roads and structures during contract construction. Proficiency in plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and survey instruments is necessary.
What You Will Do
The Engineer I will be responsible for supervising employees, preparing estimates, and ensuring compliance with contract plans, standards, and specifications. Daily communication with contractors and subordinate personnel is required.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution
- Registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors
- Experience in reading and interpreting highway construction plans and contracts
- Experience in directing, assisting or training of subordinate employees
- Experience administering contracts
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering
